Hosting Workshop 01.28.13
At the hosting workshop, we had special guest host Julian Dujarric from Channel One, the national news network broadcast across America's high schools; the network that spawned such star reporters as Anderson Cooper, Lisa Ling, and Maria Menudos! Julian had the actors working on hosting scripts across a range of genres: movies, pop culture, fitness, and sports. People brought forth some unique choices and overall, the performances were solid to at the last, promising. Julian worked with every actor a second time, directing them to bring out their strengths, shouting cues like "more, I want to see more of that!" or "I want to watch you, don't let me change the channel." Everyone vied for Julian's magic words, "I would hire you!" after their performance. The actors were incredibly appreciative of Julian's generous dissemination of his knowledge, experience, and advice and he received a special impromptu prayer from leader Stacey Williams at the end of the night. All in all, even in the face of adversity in the form of technical difficulties, we scored another home run night at Actors InC!
Commercial Night 01.14.13
4-person commercial night was a hoot! We performed a "secret car commercial" script which took us all the way to Jamaica. What I mean is, everyone had the bonus challenge of having to employ their hidden Jamaican accents. The setting was an office in which co-workers interacted with their environment and one another to demonstrate conflict and then conflict resolution...all riddled with aptly-placed comedic moments. Our actors showed up for the challenge, delivering great choices such as singing "No woman, No cry," bringing in Mid-west accents, and displaying some competent Island vibes! The performances elicited plenty of laughs and we saw improvements across the board with the group's seconds takes. We welcomed a lot of new faces and were happy to kick off 2013 together.

Improv Night with Chris Griggs 1/23/12
